Yijin Wang is a Chinese-born clarinetist and 2016 National YoungArts Finalist. An active soloist, orchestral musician, and educator, she currently serves as Adjunct Clarinet Faculty at Seminole State College.
Her career as a soloist began at the age of twelve, when she made her professional orchestral debut with the Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra. She returned as a soloist with the orchestra in 2026, and has also appeared with the UCLA Symphony Orchestra and Guangxi Philharmonic Orchestra in works by Copland, Mozart, and Weber. Her appearance at the China Clarinet Festival earned her the festival’s Best Performance Award. Wang’s performances and artistic career have also received wide media attention in China, with feature stories and interviews appearing in Hubei Daily, Changjiang Daily, Wuhan Evening News, Chutian Metropolis Daily, Modern Express, and Yanzhao Metropolis Daily.
Alongside her solo work, Wang has developed an active orchestral career, performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, and The Florida Orchestra. Through these engagements, she has worked with conductors and artists including Michael Tilson Thomas, John Adams, Giancarlo Guerrero, Yuja Wang, and Nicola Benedetti.
Her orchestral experience has also taken her to stages across the United States, Europe, and Asia. She toured with the National Youth Orchestra of China and appeared at the Beijing Clarinet Festival, and later toured Europe with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Her performances have taken place at venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Wiener Musikverein, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Carnegie Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, the New World Center, Beijing Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, and Qintai Concert Hall.
Chamber music has also remained an important part of Wang’s musical life. She has performed with members of the San Francisco Symphony through the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Side-by-Side Chamber Music Series and has received chamber music coaching from Clive Greensmith and Dimitri Murrath. Her studies have also brought her into contact with clarinetists including Andreas Ottensamer, Ricardo Morales, Boris Allakhverdyan, Jon Manasse, and Julian Bliss.
Teaching forms another important part of Wang’s career. She currently serves as Adjunct Clarinet Faculty at Seminole State College and maintains a private teaching studio, following earlier work as a clarinet teaching assistant at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. She is regularly invited to conservatories, colleges, and music schools in China to present recitals and masterclasses, including a 2026 guest artist appearance at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, where she began her formal clarinet studies.
Born in Wuhan, Wang began studying piano at the age of three and clarinet at eight. She entered the Wuhan Conservatory in 2007, where she studied with Chen Xin, and later moved to the United States to study with Yehuda Gilad at the Colburn Music Academy. She received both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on full scholarship, studying with Luis Baez and Carey Bell, and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music in 2025 under Boris Allakhverdyan.
